The Declaration

The Declaration
Gemma Malley

Imagine someone offered you the chance to live forever- would you do it? Would you still want to do it if it meant you could never have children? In The Declaration by Gemma Malley this is the question citizens of 2140 England face. The creation of longevity drugs has eliminated disease and sickness, but eternal life has created a population and resource problem.

12 year old Anna is a surplus- a child born illegally. She lives with all the other surpluses in an institution separated from the legals. She feels worthless and hates her parents for breaking the law by having her. She sees it as her duty to pay back the world by serving others- that is until she meets Peter.

Like Anna, Peter is a surplus. Peter however believes his life is important and has a secret to share with Anna: her parents are looking for her. Together, Anna and Peter have to figure out how to make their way through a world where the young do not belong and prove that they do. The first in a trilogy.
